Day 7 completed of our ‘1 mile a day in May’ challenge

And… just like that, we’ve reached the end of Day 7 in our ‘1 mile a day in May’ challenge! Time seems to be flying by as quickly as you’re all moving! Keep up the excellent effort everyone– it takes real perseverance to get out every day, especially when the weather is so unpredictable. Everyone is working so hard to be active each day whilst raising money for the school at the same time!

Here is Isla (Year 1) on Day 6 of the challenge. She walked to the park and had lots of fun playing and swinging on the zip-line with her big brother before walking back home.

Here is Abbaas (Year 3) out and about walking to complete his ‘1 mile a day’ for Day 6- what a great action shot!

Year 3 completed their ‘1 mile a day’ today (Day 7) like the active superheroes they are!

Your teachers have been busy too getting active for Day 7.

Don’t forget to send in any pictures you have to y3homeschool@woodthorpe-school.com and include in the email that you are happy for your pictures to be shown on blog/ twitter sites.

Work for Thursday (5/5/21)

Although we are not in school today, we have been asked to set work for the children to complete at home. I have explained to the children what tasks have been set, but I thought I would put the tasks on the blog also for further clarity.

Here are two tasks that should be completed:

English

  1. Read the poem ‘Plastic’ by Michael Rosen
  2. Respond to the poem by using the question prompts to help you create and fill in a grid. This work can be completed in homework books.
  3. Optional extension: Recap last week’s spellings (rule: add the suffix -ation) https://spellingframe.co.uk/ (Year 3 and 4- Spelling Rule 7- play) for your spelling quiz on Monday (10/05/21).

Maths

  1. Watch the online video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4DL4UleRuI to recap finding fractions of an amount.
  2. Complete questions 1-5 on your sheet (problem solving questions). You must show your working out. Questions 6-10 are optional for those who want a further challenge.

Optional additional home learning tasks for you to choose from:

Please don’t forget to spend 15-20 minutes completing your daily reading.

Homework books and reading records will be collected in on Friday morning for this week.

Mission complete for Day 3

A huge WELL DONE to everyone who has managed to complete their ‘1 mile‘ today despite the weather!

A special mention and well done must go to Jack and Alice– it looks like you are having a wonderful time out and about. You are both leading the way to help encourage us all (children and staff) at Woodthorpe J.I School with this challenge.

Thank you to Mrs Mason for your picture. Any guesses as to where she is?

Don’t forget to send in any pictures you have to y3homeschool@woodthorpe-school.com and include in the email that you are happy for your pictures to be shown on blog/ twitter sites.

Launching in… 3… 2… 1… Woodthorpe’s 1 mile a day in May!

Today is the first day of our BIG, month-long challenge- Woodthorpe’s 1 mile a day in May! Who has been out moving for a mile today? I wonder if any of you have managed to get anyone to sponsor you already?

It’s not too late if you haven’t been out yet. Remember, you can walk, run, scoot, cycle or move in any way you choose! (One mile is approximately a brisk 15 minute walk.)

Many of the staff at Woodthorpe are taking on the challenge too. Here are some of us on Day 1 of the challenge.

Let’s see if we can get even more pictures up for Day 2 of the challenge tomorrow!

Please ask parents/ carers to email in any pictures you have of yourself taking part to y3homeschool@woodthorpe-school.com and include in the email that you are happy for your pictures to be shown on blog/ twitter sites.

Captain Tom 100 Maths Challenge

Friday 30th April 2021 would have been Captain Sir Tom’s 101st birthday and the one-year anniversary of the extraordinary celebrations that followed the conclusion of his famous walk that raised an incredible £38.9 million for the NHS. Tom’s simple message of hope – “Tomorrow will be a good day” – resonated around the globe during some of the darkest days of the pandemic, bringing light and comfort to millions worldwide. We’re supporting the Captain Tom 100, and we’d like to invite you to help us celebrate his life and honour his memory by taking on your own Captain Tom 100 – a challenge based around the number 100, at any time and anywhere over Captain Tom’s birthday weekend, starting on Friday 30th April through to Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May.

Big Brummie Camp Out – Saturday 1st May 2021

The school will be supporting the charity, SIFA Fireside, this coming Bank Holiday weekend as we look to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness across the city of Birmingham.

Spend the night (Saturday 1st May 2021) under the stars, camping out to support homeless and vulnerable people in Birmingham. This is a great opportunity for you as a family to camp outside in the garden, build a den in the living room to sleep in, have fun and raise awareness for the great work that SIFA Fireside provide.

We have set ourselves a target of raising £200 for the charity. Online donations can be made at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/woodthorpejischool

Please visit class blog sites to access the digital activity pack that could be used in the build-up to Saturday night. Don’t forget to tweet your photos using the hashtag #BigBrummieCampOut – Thank you, as always, for your wonderful support.
